Illustration Friday: Baby topic

OK, I know this illustration is nothing spectacular, just a quick sketch of a baby bunny. But this is my first step in attempting to get back in the habit of drawing regularly outside of work and posting more often. So I'm going to try and do the illustration friday challenges every week. This weeks topic is baby.

Mural

Hey Everyone,
I'm sure I tried to recruit almost everyone who reads this blog at some point to help complete this mural for our good friends Nick and Amber and of course their baby Gwen. Well here are the results. We did get some help from both Nick and Amber's parents and one of their friends whose name I can't remember. But the majority was painted by me and Nick, and my lovely wife Cristina. Amber really wanted to paint, but she was pregnant with Gwen at the time (but I think she did some secret painting anyway when we weren't around). The whole project took a long time. I sketched all the artwork onto their walls freehand since we had no opaque projector, then I numbered the colors so everyone who wanted to could help us by doing paint by numbers. Then I went over most of it again to add some details. We finished it a week before Gwen showed up.
All these pics were taken by my beautiful wife by the way.

Artwork for the CG Challenge

I can't believe we're in the middle of May and I haven't posted since January.
Well hopefully everyone will enjoy this one. I did this for the latest CG challenge posted over here http://features.cgsociety.org/challenge/ which is supposedly "inspired by "Uplift War", a book by David Brin", though the only real requirements were that the entrants show human and alien interaction and use digital media. The winners of the challenge haven't been picked yet, so wish me luck.

Merry (belated) Christmas!

Merry Christmas Everyone! We got our card out a little late this year, since our puppy Bailey ate the first batch that was delivered to the house. Cristina wanted a Peanuts themed card this year, so I obliged. The final version of the card (which must be on the other computer because I can't find it) said Merry Christmas in the upper left corner, and had the scriptural quote from the book of Luke about Christ's birth which Linus presents in "A Charlie Brown Christmas" on the backside.
My apologies to anyone who didn't recieve a card this year, hopefully next year our pups apetite for paper will have subsided.

Kitchen Layout

Hello Again! This is a kitchen scene I did for the online animation tutoring site AcmeAnimation.org It's a really great site where you can download tutorials and worksheets and submit work to be reviewed by professionals. And I believe it's also free to students, and only a slim hundred dollars annual for us non students.

Another Post!

Yes another post in less than a week! This is another one for my rocket ride idea. I'm thinking this would be outdoors at the top of the first lift hill.

Wednesday, August 22, 2007

Hey everyone, I know it's been awhile since my last post, but luckily for you I had jury duty for two days this week and managed to finish up this jungle sketch (and beat a couple races in Diddy Kong racing on my nintendo DS but that has nothing to do with this). Anyway so here's that jungle sketch I finished and I'll try to repost when I find the time to cleanup the seam between the pages a little better. EDIT:I updated the image this morning.

Chikens in a Wharehouse?

Yep, Chikens in a wharehouse. This is another idea I had for a scene for my rocket ride. I wanted it to conclude with the rockets crashing through a wharehouse filled with crates before ultimatley crashing into the quintisential stack of explosives and a series of blacklit BANGS! and POWS! So I started drawing crates and realized crates by themselves are pretty boring, but crates with CHICKENS, now that's a fun ride. Anyway, did this last week, showed my wife, and she said "I don't think they store chikens in wharehouses honey". Oh well.

Here are a few of the signs I put together recently for my portfolio.

Girl in chair

I'm trying to finish more things that I start, so here's a photoshop rendering I think I'm done with.

T-rex

Hello again! This is one I finished up during lunch here, but I might tweak it a little more when I have time at home. I love drawing dinosaurs, and have been doing so most of my life (I think it's my older brother Shane's fault). At one point I even convinced my highschool friends to help me build a lifesize velociraptor in my bedroom as well as a juvenile t-rex head, but that's a whole other story (I'll have to see if I can find pictures of those).

Secret Santa

This is something I did really quick to decorate a gift my wife was giving to her "Secret Santa" at work.
I hope you all have a Merry Christmas!

Monday, December 11, 2006

This is something I did in watercolor when I was very young. I scanned it tonight only because I plan on using it on my website (which you should check out if you haven't at brandonstarr.com) in my "About Me" section. UPDATE: My website is complete!

Here once again is another quick scene from my rocket adventure ride.

Scaredy Horse

Hey everyone, sorry it's been so long. We've been busy moving into our new place and have just been generally busy lately, so my apologies on the lack of posts lately. Anyway here's a horse and some other frightened animals. What are they frightened by? Well my plan is to have them as part of my rocket ride and thus they are frightened by the rockets flying towards them.

Random Can Can Girl

Here's a random Can Can Girl. This came from me listening to the soundtrack of the Golden Horseshoe Jamboree on the Disneyland 50th soundtrack set my wife bought me last christmas. Like most of the girls I draw these days, I think she resembles my wife in some ways.

Building Facade

This is my building facade. I have this idea for a rocket type ride that smashes through building facades. Kind of like the old soap box racers from Knott's Berry Farm, only as a suspended coaster.

For My Wife

My wife asked me almost six months ago to do an illustration of her hiking with Mickey to commemorate the fact that she now works under the Adventures by Disney division of the Walt Disney Travel Co., and well I finally found the time to finish it. She hasn't seen the completed version yet, so I have my fingures crossed.

Monday, June 12, 2006

Here it is, I think this will be the final version. All I have to do now is release it to the forums and wait for critiques. Anyway here it is.

Girl in the rocket

Here's a girl I added to the rocket who will soon be joined by a boy. She's inspired by my wife, and the boy will look kind of like me.
